The Resource Center offers a convenient, welcoming location for people and their families to get information, assistance and access to a wide variety of services.

Employment Event A Great Success
Communinty Action Plan On Aging
William Massey, CEO of PAA with Ellen Marie Hess, Commissioner, Virginia Employment Commission, Keynote Speaker at the 6th Annual Senior Employment Event.

Our 6th Annual Employment event, held on June 25th at the Historic Triangle Messmer Community Services Center was a great success. Over 200 older workers attended the event and were provided the opportunity to meet and talk to local employers looking to hire workers 45 and over.

Typical job openings included, but were not limited to: Teachers, Licensed Counselors, Health Care Professionals, Drivers, Food Services, Technical and Administrative Positions.

Workers came prepared with copies of their resumes and suitable attire to meet and greet over 15 local employers.

This event was a free offering and open to older workers interested in finding a job!

Family Caregivers

Family Caregiver Lunch & Learn Series

This series is offered at no charge and includes a box lunch.

The Vulnerable Seniors Committee focuses on the needs of hidden populations including isolated and frail seniors, low-income seniors and those with mental health issues. The committee works to enhance the support of services to meet the needs of vulnerable seniors and their caregivers.

Upcoming Programs:

July 9 - Caring for a Loved One with Dementia:
  • Hear tips to help your loved one with dementia stay active and busy, learn about Project Lifesaver and find out about area dementia support groups.
August 13 - Supports and Resources for Caregivers:
  • Learn about “Caring for You, Caring for Me”, an award-winning caregiver education program, as well as other resources available in our community for caregivers.

Communinty Action Plan On Aging

The Senior Services Coalition of Greater Williamsburg (SSC) is an organization of health care providers, government entities, academics, and community members working collaboratively to promote a healthier and more livable community for older adults in the Historic Triangle Area.

By 2030, one of every three Historic Triangle Area residents will be age 60 or over (US Census, 2005).Communinty Action Plan On Aging In response to this startling fact, The Senior Services Coalition is facilitating the development of community indicators to assess how prepared the Greater Williamsburg area is to address the needs of our changing demographics. The Community Indicators developed will be easily remembered, useful for trend analysis, and inform community level decision making. Keys To Healthy AgingThe Senior Services Coalition’s Keys to Healthy Aging program provides easy to read information about topics of interest to seniors, their caregivers, and adult children. The information is provided in brief, 2 page resource summaries that have been developed by SSC members who have expertise on the topics.

Each summary includes:

  • Brief description of the topic
  • List of community resources you can contact for more information
  • List of SSC-approved speakers, who you can contact to present up-to-date, reliable information about the topic to your group.
