Monthly Updates

April 2011

The committee, chaired by Dave Murray, developed and distributed a survey at the April 21st Senior Fair held at King of Glory.  The survey was developed to elicit information from citizens who attend health fairs with the aim of identifying which aspects of health fairs are most useful and of the most interest to attendees.  Twenty-nine completed surveys were returned.  The results of the survey will be reviewed at the committee’s May meeting.

The committee is also developing a survey for distribution to health care providers and other vendors who attend health fairs.  This survey will be used to identify exhibitor experiences, expectations and preferences in participating in local health fairs.  The committee will use SurveyMonkey or some other online survey tool to distribute and collect responses.

January-March 2011

· The Committee worked on the development of two surveys, one for service providers, the other for health fair attendees.  Committee members agreed to send Dave Murray a list of potential questions for use in the surveys prior to the February committee meeting.
· The questions will be used to create a survey to identify exhibitor experiences, expectations and preferences in participating in local health fairs in order to identify organizational criteria that support future events.
· The committee will use SurveyMonkey or some other online survey tool to distribute and collect responses.

December 2010

During the reporting period, the committee, chaired by Dave Murray, focused on Goal 1.3 - : Explore and support appropriate senior service provider community networking projects.
· The Committee is reviewing evaluations from two major health fair events in Williamsburg (the King of Glory event held in the spring and the Historic Triangle Senior Center event held in the fall.).  From this, a survey will be developed to identify exhibitor experiences, expectations and preferences in participating in local health fairs in order to identify organizational criteria that support future events. Surveys will be developed in January and be distributed/made available to Senior Services Coalition members electronically. Results of the survey (or actual survey implementation) will take place at an upcoming SSC meeting. A survey for citizen input is also planned.

  • Reviewed more that 30 area "senior" health fairs/events held on the Peninsula in 2010. Next, the Committee will review evaluations from two major health fair events in Williamsburg. From this, a survey will be developed to identify exhibitor experiences, expectations and preferences in participating in local health fairs in order to identify organizational criteria that support future events. Surveys will be developed in January and be distributed/made available to Senior Services Coalition members electronically. August/September 2010:

  • Upgrades to the Peninsula Aging & Disability Resource Network website were rolled-out over the summer. The website has a new logo; navigation logo prompts, and includes a few key state and national resources and eligibility indicator links. There are now 38 categories of service and 195 local, peer vetted, providers on the website.  Promotion of PADRN.org as a resource is being conducted among providers listed, the faith community and the medical community. Recruitment of these groups to use the PADRN.org resource to assist their clients, congregation members or patients as PADRN Community Partners is in progress. Media promotion of these Community partners, once established, will help focus the community on the PADRN website as a resource for home and community based services.
  • The Peninsula Aging & Disability Resource Network will launch an electronic referral tool for home and community based services in the fall. The Client Assistance Referral Exchange System, (CARES) will roll-out for use by local public and private providers. Use of the CARES tool will be conducted through invitations extended to providers by the PADRN Advisory Council.

July 2010:

The committee is working to identify and recruit partners with media outlets.  The goal is to create partnerships that provide information in a variety of formats: print, video, audio and digital, so that seniors have range of ways to learn about and access information.

During July, the following was accomplished:

  • Updates to the Peninsula Aging & Disability Resource Network website were unveiled.  In addition, to the update to its look, the site has a new tab that takes the visitor to a few state and national links for information on aging or disability services  Another sub-tab takes the visitor to benefits/eligibility links.
  • The PADRN site will soon include a secure component for providers only where client consented referral exchange can take place.

June 2010:

  • Identified and working to recruit three service resource partners who will hopefully take the lead in their various capacities to promote or represent the CAPOA. In providing leadership, the community at large will see them as trusted access points for information and assistance. Two additional resource partners are scheduled for recruitment this summer.

  • A promising development in pursuing a local "health information exchange" is also underway and that is designed to involve health and community based services. Initial implementation of this system is expected this summer.
